Happy Holidays!

The holiday season is in full swing with decorating, shopping, crafting and cooking some delicious goodies.

This season brings so many opportunities to share activities and experiences with our kids.  I love making cookies and other treats with my daughter, and she loves being a helper.

With my daughter being in school everyday until noon, I am excited that she’ll be home for winter break soon.  I have lots of activities planned for us, and I wanted to share some of them with all of you.

There are a LOT of activities this month involving the library, including creating Christmas bookmarks, many crafting classes, and a reading program that offers a chance to win a Christmas stocking chock full of surprises!  For a complete listing of library events for this month, visit www.rpl.org/events.

For Disney lovers, you can find lots of fun crafts online at www.family.disney.com/christmas-crafts. Make a Mickey Mouse snowman card, Elsa snowflake ornament, Anna flower ornament and more.

We also have some fun activities planned for this month, so check out our December calendar.  I hope to see you at one of our activities soon!  Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your families!

October Activities

October is finally here, and deliciously cooler weather is on its way!

We have several fun activities planned for this month; I am really looking forward to them – I am especially excited about our next Moms Night Out!  We will be decorating craft pumpkins at this Pinterest Party.  Some of us will be painting them, some will be gluing embellishments or stickers and more.  We are planning to share a tasty meal with delicious desserts!

I will be hosting the Book Club at our home this month.  We read “The Fault in Our Stars” by John Green.  This is really a great book, and has been made into a motion picture.  If you love reading, please consider joining us!

We also have several outdoor activities planned, including park outings, our annual MOMS Club Halloween party, and the Family Pumpkin Patch visit – bring your entire family for this one!

I hope everyone has a great October, and hope to see you at one of the activities soon!

Fall is in full swing!

By Karen C.

Fall is in full swing. School is back, days are getting shorter, and hopefully cooler weather is on its way! The change of seasons always makes me reflective, thinking of how life has changed in the past year and pondering the changes to come.

I moved to Alexandria from Hattiesburg, MS nearly 15 years ago and spent the next several years working full time, marrying my husband, and later, having my daughter. Once she was born, I stopped working to stay home with her. Initially, we had a great time at home together, but as she grew, we both began to feel isolated.

I searched for local support groups (and tried a few that didn’t fit) until I found the MOMS Club. I have been a member for less than a year, but was welcomed into our little group immediately!

Although some of you have lived here for years, many of you have similar stories of moving to this area where you didn’t have family and had to make new friends. The MOMS Club has given us a way to connect to other like-minded SAHMs, to share our daily ups and downs together. I don’t know what I would have done without this MOMS Club.

This September marks the 8-year anniversary of the founding of this chapter of the MOMS Club. While there certainly have been changes in the past eight years, the support provided by such wonderful ladies has remained throughout the years.

My hope is that we can reach other SAHMs in the area who may be feeling isolated and lonely. With new Fall activities around the corner, we hopefully can meet new moms to share our group with them.

If you are interested in learning more about the MOMS Club of Alexandria Area, LA, please send an e-mail to us at: momsclubofalexandriaarea@hotmail.com.  We would love to get to know you!

Back to School Time!

By Karen C.

Can you believe that it’s August already? Back to school time is right around the corner, and that means school changes, schedule changes, and the beginning of football season and more.

For the first time, this at-home mom is sending my child to school. While I’m thrilled that she is excited to start this new chapter in her life, my sentimentality keeps me wondering, “where has my baby gone?”

Even though she will only be at school for a half-day, starting school constitutes a major change for us...and sometimes change hurts! As much as I anticipate some issues with separation anxiety for our little girl (and maybe her mom, if I’m being honest), I am so excited that she is growing up into such a delightful young lady.

Our MOMS Club is going through some changes as well...including restarting the MOMS Club Book Club!

Thanks to Trang Lopez’s hard work, our monthly book club is restarting. If you’re a bookworm like me, this is exciting news! For more information, be sure to read all about it on Page 2 of our monthly newsletter.

Also, I’d like to say thanks to everyone who helped out at the Cenla Kid Sale last month. We have several potential new members who are planning to join us for our next social.

I hope that all of you have a great August and that the stresses of the Back-to-School season are minor. We’ve had some great activities this Summer! Personally, I’m looking forward to cooler weather and the Fall activities coming soon (Pumpkin Patch, anyone??). I hope to see all of you at some of this month’s activities!
